What is phone unlocking? Phones are generally sold by wireless carriers for much less than their actual retail value. The wireless carriers often subsidize the cost of the phones with the expectation that they can recover more than this amount throughout the subscriber's contract. They will try to make sure that the phone can only be used on their particular network, and therefore they lock the phone's software to their wireless network. For example, AT&T supplied phones only work on AT&T wireless networks. By unlocking the phone you enable the same AT&T locked phone to work with T-mobile, Rogers, Fido, Vodafone or any other wireless provider in the world.
